BEYOND THE HILLS

March 24 – April 30

Showcasing the work of six artists who each have a connection to York.

Tim Burns was born in the wheatbelt and after 20 years in New York where he was mostly known for his performance and film work, Tim has returned to the wheatbelt where he now lives. Described as one of Australia’s true avant-garde artists, he is often provocative and always socially engaged. In this exhibition we present a series of his large scale paintings that reflect the view from his studio in a quarry near Gwambygine.

Stewart Scambler’s interest in regionalism starts with the naturally occurring local clay used to create his pots and extends to the York gum, Jam wattle and black sheoak collected from his York property. This lends his work its particularly unique quality that very much a product of the environment in which it was produced.
John Feeney is a prolific artist who has been exhibiting throughout WA since the early 1970s. John’s work is heavily influenced by his interaction with the natural environment, and has a particular interest in Australia’s desert areas, in the far north of Western Australia, central Australia and the wheatbelt.

Trish Scambler’s maiolica is heavily influenced by the European and middle East maiolica traditions but Trish adds a modernist twist on this highly decorated form of earthenware.

Susie Marwick is descended from one of York’s oldest families. Susie’s sense of humour and capacity to create new forms from found objects, often sourced along the beaches of North and South Fremantle is reflected in her small scale sculptures.

Dave Baker/Hobo Designs. From his farm studio Dave creates furniture that has been shaped from timber found on his own property, including sandalwood, jarrah and jam wattle. Guided by the natural shape of the timber he is working with, Dave works to highlight the random, asymmetrical and often wild forms to create highly unique furniture pieces.[/vc_column_text][vc_btn title=”MORE INFO” style=”outline-custom” outline_custom_color=”#020202″ outline_custom_hover_background=”#000000″ outline_custom_hover_text=”#ffffff” shape=”square” align=”left” link=”url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.test.gallery152.com.au%2Fbeyond-the-hills%2F|||” css=”.vc_custom_1487388360864{margin-left: 15px !important;}”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”2/3″][vc_single_image image=”283″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″ css=”.vc_custom_1486305244873{padding-top: 15px !important;padding-right: 15px !important;padding-bottom: 15px !important;padding-left: 15px !important;}”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1486305341208{border-top-width: 1px !important;border-bottom-width: 1px !important;padding-top: 15px !important;padding-right: 15px !important;padding-bottom: 15px !important;padding-left: 15px !important;border-top-color: #000000 !important;border-top-style: solid !important;border-bottom-color: #000000 !important;border-bottom-style: solid !important;}”]
